4 common worries about divorce (and how to cope)

On Behalf of | May 24, 2023 | Divorce |

Any significant change in life can be worrying, and divorce is no different. A significant percentage of people have attested they were worried to the point that some questioned their decision.

If you are going through a divorce, it can help to address some common fears head-on. Here are a few common concerns found among divorcing couples, and how to cope:

1. The emotional pain

Divorce can be emotionally painful, and the process can bring about anxiety, depression, anger and other negative emotions. However, it’s important to grieve after a divorce. Spending time with family, joining support groups and therapy should help you heal.

2. The intrusive questions

Healing from a divorce while answering intrusive questions can be challenging – especially if you’re not ready to talk about the situation. It’s perfectly acceptable to set boundaries and ask people to not bring up the subject. You can let them know when you’re ready to discuss it.

3. The problems with relocation

You may want to consider staying with friends or family for a while until you can find the right place to relocate after your divorce. While moving can be stressful, it helps to view this process as an adventure, or a new stage in your personal growth.

4. The financial strain

Divorce is expensive, and adjusting to being in a single-income household can be hard. There is never a more important time for good budgeting. The more carefully you take stock of your finances, the easier you’ll find the adjustment.

Having worries when going through a divorce is normal – but it helps to get legal help to protect your interests and life after the divorce.
